...I make my own deodorant? I do. And I have for over 10 years. My eldest laughs and calls me The Mountain Woman. Why do I? Because I noticed years ago it became increasingly harder to find deodorant for women. Only antiperspirant or a combo of the two.
I recall reading somewhere the inorganic substances found in antiperspirant contained carcinogens...
...and I must protect the girls.
So, I make my own. Nobody has complained, so I presume it works.
I don't wear make-up. Why? Because I read somewhere make-up, especially lipstick, is made from insects, fish scales and pig fat, to name a few pleasant ingredients... and since it's so close to my mouth...
I decided *Blech*
- plus, make-up feels gross on my skin. I choose to not wear it. Which is my right.
I rarely take pharmaceuticals, unless I have an infection or am in a great deal of pain - then I only take what's prescribed (antibiotic) or enough to cope (one or two pain pills, tops). I've never taken illegal drugs, or smoke pot.
...I prefer wine.
Why? Because I don't like putting stuff in my body I don't know what the adverse effects are. It's my right. It's how I choose to live.
I'm not pushing my home-made deodorant on anyone. I don't laugh at people who wear insects and fish scales on their lips. I don't scoff at you for what you choose to put in your body. I figure it's none of my business.
...besides, I'm really *that* apathetic.
I find myself being inundated with posters and people and propaganda regarding this years flu vaccine. Everyone and their precious dog is up in arms that EVERYONE needs to get the flu shot. Why? Because, IMHO, like religion, it's this generation's version of the Emperor's New Clothes. Everybody does it, therefore, you SHOULD TOO. It's good for you. It's irrational to not want it. It keeps everyone safe. It's the best thing since sliced turkey.
...and if you find it not 100% satisfactory.
If you agree with the last five statements, stop reading now. You've already taken on the herd mentality and hate me for not being sensible and trying to keep EVERYONE ELSE (tm) safe.
If you're on the fence about the flu shot, let me give you some fodder for thought:
Some Q&As from the CDC:
Don't I fee ridiculous?
Will This Season's Vaccine Be a Good Match for Circulating Viruses?
Heads, I win; tails, you lose.
Hrm... I just checked. Yep! None of the above.
Here are some interesting facts the handy-dandy handouts won't be mentioning, but I read them somewhere:
yeah, yeah, yeah... you already said that.
...and yet, it's "recommended" for 65+ adults and pregnant women...
The good news is, you won't die of the flu. The bad news is...um...
Wait, what was I saying?
Come on, Mom! It'll be fun!
*shrug* But, you guarantee I won't get the flue, right?!? DOH!!
